PeeWee A Mite B Oiler Teams are Champions!

The San Diego Oilers Mite B team participated in the 12th annual Thanksgiving Extravaganza Nov 26th-30th held at Iceoplex arena in Escondido. The team went undefeated and walked away with the championship banner. The tournament was a tough test for the kids featuring two local team rivals. The team was lead by an overall balanced attack. The defense was solid throughout the tournament limiting the scoring chances. Goalie Alec Clair only gave up 6 goals throughout the tournament. The Championship game was a battle. The Oilers Seamus Radley got things started with a goal midway through the first period making it 1-0 SDIA. Shortly after the Saints came back with a goal of there own evening things up at 1-1. Late in the first period Tanner Kelly scored giving the Oilers a 2-1 lead at the end of the 1st period. The second period the Saints tied the score once again at 2-2. The third period was a defensive battle. The Saints pulled there goalie with a few minutes to go late in the period knowing they needed a victory to win. However the Oilers were able to hold off the charging Saints preserving a tie thus giving the Oilers the championship. Alec Clair received MVP honors as he faced 31 shots in the championship. Congratulations to all of the players for a true team effort.

The SDIA Pee Wee A team competed this past weekend in the Jr. Gulls Thanksgiving tournament held here in San Diego. After defeating The San Diego Saints twice, with scores of 7-2 and 4-2, the boy's from SDIA found themselves in the finals vs. a very strong San Diego Jr. Gulls team. A team they had tied 2-2 in a game the day before. After scoring early, the Gulls answered back with 3 quick goals,to lead the final game 3-1. After SDIA used their only timeout of the game, the Oilers began to skate with a determination that has put them atop of the SCAHA Pee Wee A standings this season. The Oilers fought back to tie the game 3-3 going into the 3rd period. The teams traded great scoring chances keeping everyone on the edge of their seats. SDIA scored what would be the games final goal with 10 minutes left. From there on,the Oilers played great defense and made timely saves, allowing only 6 shots in the final period. Congratulations to Coach Tim Wright, his coaching staff, the Oiler players, and all of the Pee Wee A parents for bringing home the Championship banner!
